FAITH     -  Aaron Sam Shibu, Sunday School Student, West London

Psalms 117 is the shortest chapter in bible. Psalms 119 is the longest chapter in the bible. Psalms 118 is the centre chapter of the bible. There are 594 chapters before and after psalms 118. The centre verse in the whole bible is psalms 118:8. Does this verse say something significant about God’s perfect will for our lives? It says “it is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust man” Isn’t this odd how this worked out (or was God in the centre of it)? The next time someone says they would like to find God’s perfect will for their lives. Just sent them to the centre of the world. So when things get tough, always remember, Faith doesn’t get you around trouble. It gets you through it.

What does faith mean?

Faith is assurance of thing, and conviction of thing not seen. In Hebrews -11 verses 4 , 5 ,7 and 8  are people who had faith. The people mentioned are Abel , Enoch, Noah   and Abraham. By faith Abel offered a sacrifice to God .This offering was more acceptable than Cain’s. By faith Enoch was taken into heaven without experiencing death. He did not experience death because he had pleased God .Without faith you can’t please God. By faith Noah , warned by God build an ark , an ark to save the world. He did not doubt or question God. And finally Abraham. Abraham is a great man of faith. He had unconditional or blind faith. Let us look at three main point of him. He was obedient, He trusted despite his circumstances and He kept his eye on heavenly thing.

  • He was obedient

Abraham obeyed God. He left his father’s home as God asked. He did this without questioning. Also god made a promise that he would be a great nation and bless him. Abraham did not know where he was going in detail of what God had in his store for him but he obeyed immediately.

  • He trusted in God, despite his circumstances.

God promised Abraham many things but it was not fulfilled immediately .Because Abraham did not have any children, he said to God that one of his servants is going to become his heir since he did not have any children. But God replied, you will have disentrance as the stars in the sky and the sand in seashore.

  • He kept his eye on heavenly thing.

When Abraham was a hundred year old, his wife bore a son, called Isaac. One of his promises was now fulfilled. But God put a test on Abraham to check his faith. So God told him to sacrifice his only and begotten son. Even though he loved his son so much he loved his God more. Abraham knew that Isaac would be raises from death. And God is first for everything then he would place others.
